Protect Our Kids believes
witnessing violence is harmful to children. Whether it
is violence in homes, neighborhoods or schools, there
are negative effects on children who are exposed to it.
These effects include:
- increased likelihood
to commit acts of violence against others (including
bullying)
- acting out in school
- poor school
performance
- bedwetting
- feelings of guilt
- trouble sleeping
Protect Our Kids offers
Hampton families with children who witness violence
several types of resources. A free screening and
assessment can be conducted to determine needs for each
particular child. Services that may be suggested for the
child range from counseling to art therapy or play
therapy.
Protect Our Kids also
believes that to be successful we must work to prevent
children from witnessing violence. This means community
education to establish a community that values
violence-free lives for its children.
Protect Our Kids is made
possible through the generosity of community partners
and grant funders including:
- The Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation
- Bernardine Franciscan
Sisters Foundation
- City of Hampton
- Riverside Health
System Foundation
